Consumers who have been affected by the cyber-attack on Tangerine, and where Tangerine has confirmed their personal details were disclosed, should be taking extra steps to protect themselves and be on alert for strange activity using their personal information.
If a consumer has a complaint about the Tangerine data breach, they should try to contact Tangerine first. If a consumer can’t contact Tangerine or is unhappy with their response, they can make a complaint with the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman.
Quote attributable to Ombudsman Cynthia Gebert:
“It can be distressing to learn that your personal information may have been disclosed in a cyber-attack. Consumers who are affected by a data breach should remain vigilant about their personal information.”
“If you are concerned about your personal information, get in touch with Tangerine first. If Tangerine has confirmed your data has been exposed, you can’t get in contact with Tangerine, or aren’t happy with their response, come to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman for help.”
