Ombudsman supports ACMA warnings to telcos who fail to join its scheme
The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) supports the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s (ACMA) actions to enforce the compulsory membership of the TIO.
The TIO scheme provides a free dispute resolution service for people and small businesses who have an unresolved complaint about their phone or internet provider. Compulsory membership of our scheme ensures consumers have a pathway to resolve complaints they are unable to resolve directly with their provider.
Ombudsman Judi Jones said, “For 26 years the TIO has played an important role in the telecommunications sector, supporting complaint resolution for essential phone and internet services. The pace of change and increasing complexity in the telecommunications industry means the role of the Ombudsman continues to be a vital consumer safeguard committed to reducing complaints and working with telcos to improve their practices.
“The working relationship between the ACMA and the TIO gives clarity and certainty to providers and consumers about the regulatory framework that supports a thriving telecommunications industry.”
