Scams, spam and fraud

If a scammer targets you, someone steals your identity, or you can’t stop spam, your provider has a responsibility to help you. If they don’t, let us know.

What we can't do

  • Contact scammers for you

We can only deal with your phone or internet provider, not scammers.

  • Investigate criminal activity

We can’t investigate scams, fraud or unwanted communications as a crime. You must report these to the police.

  • Stop political parties from contacting you

We can’t stop political parties from contacting you. In Australia, political messages are generally not treated as spam, and political parties can legally call, text or email people.

Tips for working with your provider

Try saying/asking

  • I think I’ve been scammed. What can I do?
  • Someone has made a purchase on my account and it’s not me. What can I do?
  • I got this text/email from you. Can you tell me if it’s real?
  • "Can you block this number/email address for me?”
