Dana Beiglari joins the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman Board

Summary
The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) Limited welcomes the new appointment of Dana Beiglari as a member of its Board of Directors. She will commence her term from 26 February 2022.

Dana will be joining as a Director with Consumer Experience, replacing Dr Paul Harrison who has retired from the Board.

Dana is the manager of Legal Aid NSW's Consumer Law practice group. She helps the most vulnerable people in NSW access their consumer protection rights in credit, insurance and general consumer protection matters. 

Dana currently represents Legal Aid NSW on several forums, including the Australian Securities & Investments Commission's Consumer Advisory Panel and the Australian Law Council's Consumer Law Committee. She has provided a consumer advocate perspective at a number of public inquiries, including the Financial Services Royal Commission and the Senate Inquiry into Resolution of Disputes with Financial Service Providers within the Justice System. 

Dana started her career as a lawyer at the commercial law firm, Allens Linklaters and has also worked at community legal centres. She is passionate about contributing to a dispute resolution system that is accessible and fair for Australian consumers. 

Alongside the new appointment, Geoff Nicholson has been reappointed as an Independent Director with Commercial Governance Experience for a third three-year term.

“I congratulate Dana on her appointment to the TIO Board and thank outgoing member Dr Paul Harrison for his long and dedicated service to the TIO,” Board Chair Michael Lavarch said. “Dana’s legal experience and consumer advocacy will provide valuable insights to the Board as we continue through the final phase of our three-year strategy.”

As required by the TIO’s company constitution, formal recruitment processes were undertaken for Board vacancies.The Board of TIO Limited is chaired by an independent Director and comprises a balanced mix of Directors with industry and consumer experience, an Independent Director with not-for-profit governance experience and an Independent Director with commercial governance experience.
