What we can’t do
Make a provider pay without proof
We can only ask your provider to pay if you can show their actions caused your loss.
Ask a provider to pay more than our limits
We can award up to $100,000 in compensation. For complaints other than privacy, the maximum award for non-financial loss (such as stress, inconvenience or distress) is $1,500.
Tips for working with your provider
Try saying or asking:
“Your outage impacted my business. How can I claim my money back?”
“Please explain what you’ll need from me to consider my compensation claim?”
“The privacy breach caused me real distress. I’d like compensation for the impact on me.”
“Can you please confirm in writing what you’ll pay and when?”
