TIO Ltd announces move to new single Board

The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman Ltd today voted to move from a Board and Council structure into a single Board of Directors.

The new Board will be independently chaired by Patricia Faulkner AO, currently chair of the National Health Performance Authority, Superpartners, Jesuit Social Services and Deputy Chair of St. Vincent’s Health Australia.

The new Board is a balanced mix of consumer, industry and independent directors who will streamline decision-making and provide greater oversight of the TIO by a single body. It consists of four directors with consumer experience, four directors with industry experience, and two independent directors.

Most of the new Board’s directors are members of the former TIO Board or Council. The exception is newly appointed independent director Philippa Smith AM, who is a former Commonwealth Ombudsman.

The changes were introduced following endorsement of unitary governance by the TIO Board and Council.

Extensive consultation with government, consumer and industry bodies was conducted about the new structure, drawing on best practice models while addressing the needs and expectations of members and other stakeholders.
