The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO) provided this submission to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) as part of its consultation on the sunset review of Mobile Premium Services (MPS) determinations.
The TIO supported ACMA's proposal not to renew the Telecommunications Service Provider (Mobile Premium Services) Determinations 2010, noting that complaints relating to mobile premium services had significantly declined and that existing industry codes now provide stronger consumer protections.
The submission highlighted the ongoing value of customer barring rules and recommended that these protections be retained within the Communications Alliance Code to ensure consumers continue to have safeguards against unwanted charges and services.
