     5. Disability Action Plan

The TIO aims to ensure that its services are available for all people who require them.

A key document supporting this aim is the Disability Action Plan, which was developed in late 2002.

The plan was developed after consultation with representatives from disability advocacy groups and contains targets to be achieved in areas including:

• internal communication
• staff training
• equal employment opportunities
• dissemination of information.

The plan was registered with the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission in March 2003. By February 2006, the TIO will have evaluated the success of the plan over the previous three years and report the findings to HREOC.

TIO staff met with representatives from disability advocacy groups in October to report on the implementation of the plan and to seek feedback on modifications needed to improve the plan.

Among items that the meeting aimed to implement were:
• ensure that TIO position statements that have a bearing on disability issues are clear and up to date
• increase the frequency of disability awareness training to TIO staff;
• ensure that the TIO website meets all three levels of the W3C standard.
