Cabling beyond first socket or main distribution
frame
Section 4.3 (b) of the TIO's constitution states that its functions
do not extend to cabling beyond the network termination point, other than
cabling from the network termination point to the first telephone and,
in the case of residential carriage services, cabling to other extensions
of that service within the residential premises.
The TIO can investigate complaints about faults where the fault
lies in cabling up to and including the first socket in a house,
or cabling up to the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) of a building.
Where it is apparent that a fault lies on the customer's side of
the network, the TIO cannot investigate.
Similarly, the TIO can only investigate complaints about provisioning
in relation to cabling up to the first socket or MDF.
While the constitution technically states that the TIO does have the
power to investigate (residential) complaints beyond the first socket,
the TIO does not usually take up these types of complaints and is looking
to amend its constitution to remove this particular reference.
