Members of the TIO
Q: Is my telephone company or Internet service provider
a member of the TIO?
A: Search the TIO
membership list
Q: Who has to be a member of the TIO?
A: Under Federal legislation, any company that provides
any of the following services is required to be a member of the
TIO:
- A standard telephone service to residential or small business
customers
- Public mobile telephone services
- Internet access (Internet service providers)
- Intermediary services including reselling or arranging for the
supply of the above services.
Q: What if my telephone company or ISP isn't a member of
the TIO?
A: The TIO is unable to investigate complaints against
companies who aren't members of the TIO scheme. However, the overwhelming
majority of telecommunications companies in Australia are TIO members.
If your company isn't a member, you should raise the issue directly
with the company, and let the TIO know.
Q: What does the TIO do to make sure telecommunications
companies do become TIO members?
A: The TIO makes every effort to ensure that all eligible
telecommunications companies are aware of their legal obligation
to join the TIO scheme. If a company does not join the scheme, the
TIO refers that company to the Australian Communications & Media
Authority which has legal powers to direct a company to join the
TIO.
Q: How do I join the TIO?
